Golfing Holidays in England

Golf in its perceived simplicity is a popular sport for all ages. Once considered a game for retirees, younger players such as Tiger Woods have made it more appealing to those of a younger generation. As such, golfing holidays have become much more popular than they once were. Self catering holidays, such as renting a cottage for a week means the freedom to play whenever you want and to spend quality time with your family and friends.

There are golf courses close to the coast, ideal for those who want to combine a beach getaway with golfing. As a matter of fact, there are several miles of North West England coastline that seem to never end with tees, greens and fairways. Some courses along this route include:

  • Formby Golf Club
  • Hillside Golf Club (Southport)
  • Royal Birkdale Golf Club
  • Royal Lytham St. Annes Golf Club
  • Staining Lodge Golf Club (Blackpool)

These locations are all great for cottage holidays with family as there is plenty of things for your loved ones to do in the area while you hit the links.

If you are more of a city break type of person, then maybe one of the golf courses in the capital would appeal to you. London is not just filled with tourist attractions and shopping areas, there are also several great golf courses for you to enjoy as well, including:

  • Royal Blackheath Golf Club
  • Hendon Golf Club
  • Royal Wimbledon Golf Club
  • Highgate Golf Club

If you want to play at some of the city’s best golf clubs but would rather stay on the outskirts to avoid the crowd, then these clubs are on great commuter links. You can also find a golf course that offers accommodation to its visiting players, some have cottages to hire on the grounds, are part of a hotel complex or have bed and breakfast accommodation nearby.
